Nidra Mitra is in its nascent state. It was born after recognizing the current need of the hour in a country as big and populous as India. With a large portion of Indian demographics aged under 28 years and the observation that youth and organizations today are making sleep deprivation a norm, I felt the need to come out of retirement to start a private venture where I can help as needed.

I have passionately worked in the fields of clinical and behavioral sleep medicine and sleep health education for the past 16 years.
All plants and animals on the planet earth have cyclic behavior patterns. All animals have active and inactive functions during the 24-hour day/night rhythms of our planet.
The cyclic inactive part the cycle which occurs during the night for humans is called sleep. It is during this period that important brain and body functions happen. While the true and complete biological purpose of sleep is still nothing less than a mystery, scientists are beginning to recognize that its very vital for human life and function.
Nature has dedicated 1/3rd of human life to sleep. The magnanimity of that situation can be understood by simply thinking of a person who lives for 75 years…. He/she would need to sleep for 25 of them to stay fully healthy. Inadequate sleep quality or quantity of sleep can throw the “normal” out of one’s life.
Sleep can directly affect every part of the body, tissues and systems in the body. The brain, heart, lungs, digestion, immune functioning, and mood can get directly affected by improper sleep. Researchers have found that chronic sleep deprivation can increase risk of High blood pressure, heart issues, worsen diabetes, depression and obesity.
